As it turns out, festivals are something Squamish does well. We’ve been attracting big names since the 60’s.
The iconic Woodstock Festival was held from August 15th–17th, 1969; it drew an audience of over 400,000 people. It was a moment in time that defined a generation.
One week later, the Grateful Dead and a handful of other acts, having just performed at Woodstock, hopped on a plane heading for Squamish. They were headed to perform at the Vancouver Pop Festival from August 22–24th, hosted at the Paradise Valley Resort in Squamish (now the Cheakamus Centre). Fifteen thousand people crowded into town to see this impressive line-up.
